STUCCO DECORATION ACROSS EUROPE
The project Stucco Decoration across Europe explores – with an interdisciplinary approach - the works of Baldassarre Fontana from Chiasso and other stucco masters coming from the border region between the current Canton Ticino and Lombardy, that worked in the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, and Switzerland.
This study brings together researchers, academics, professionals, and students from various educational levels (from bachelor to PhD), offering activities for the scientific community and for a wider European audience.
The diverse backgrounds of participants —spanning art history, conservation, restoration, and materials science— foster enriching dialogue and expertise network, crucial for understanding, preserving, and interpreting cultural heritage. By emphasizing these long-overlooked works, the project aims to enhance knowledge, elevate their significance within European art history, and ultimately improve conservation efforts.
The project's primary objective is to establish a pan-European network of stucco decoration specialists, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across national and cultural boundaries.
This initiative invites students, professionals, and academics to participate in on-site workshops, educational activities, and field visits.
Partners aim to promote innovative cross-disciplinary approaches to stucco decoration appreciation and preservation through targeted teaching and workshop programs.
By encouraging students from diverse fields to collaborate, the project enhances knowledge sharing and the quality of scientific and innovative methodologies for the protection of this heritage.
The team will produce various academic outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and research reports, to disseminate their methods and findings. Additional presentations, exhibitions, and workshops will be organised for the general public, aiming to increase awareness and appreciation of stucco decorations among a broader audience.
